Human Events On John Edwards Attacking Israel...

John Edwards: Israel Biggest Threat to Peace

Peter Bart reports in Variety:

The political star system has its built-in tensions, to be sure. Adam Venit, a honcho at Endeavor, hosted a reception for John Edwards at his agency the other day. Not present was Venit's partner, Ari Emanuel, who threw a hot Obama bash not long ago and whose brother, Rahm, may (or may not) remain in the Hillary camp.

At the same time, Hollywood loves box office, and Al Gore's documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth," has become Paramount's single most profitable release. Suddenly Gore is a star again.

There are other emerging fissures, as well. The aggressively photogenic John Edwards was cruising along, detailing his litany of liberal causes last week until, during question time, he invoked the "I" word -- Israel. Perhaps the greatest short-term threat to world peace, Edwards remarked, was the possibility that Israel would bomb Iran's nuclear facilities. As a chill descended on the gathering, the Edwards event was brought to a polite close.

Wizbang Blog's Jim Addison adds, "Apparently, Edwards sees somewhat LESS of a threat from the Iranians building nuclear weapons, al Qaeda, the situation in Iraq, Pakistan's fragile democracy, Russia's fragile kleptocracy, North Korea nukes, and Chinese dreams of regional hegemony." The Hillary Spot's Jim Geraghty agrees with Addison: "Really? Israel is the biggest threat? Not Ahmedinijad? Not al-Qaeda? Not a coup attempt in Pakistan? Not a complete breakdown in Iraq drawing in the Saudis, Turks, and Iranians?"

GOP Bloggers' Mark Noonan opines, "This is all too typical of liberals - rather than confront real evil, they prefer to attack the good guys - because the good guys won't kill them if they do."

Little Green Football's Charles Johnson believes John would make an excellent lefty blogger: "For nutroots bloggers, though, this is nothing exceptional. It’s the standard hard left progressive line, echoing European public opinion polls that identify Israel as the greatest threat to world peace, and a quick run around the lefty blogosphere will find them all saying similar things."

Ed Driscoll adds that Edwards is right that their are two Americas: One where this sort of rhetoric is acceptable, and one where this is not acceptable public discourse.

Powerline's Paul Mirengoff opines that this is yet another example that Edwards is an "unserious" candidate for President.

Life in Israel's Rafi G believes Edwards nailed his own coffin closed with this remark.

Shoot the Messenger adds, "Don't for a moment believe that John BreckGirl Edwards made a boo-boo. A political boo-boo perhaps, but he did not misspeak.

Aw c'mon guys and gals. It's SHOOTING THE MESSENGER. Sheesh. Dunno if the real name gives them the trembles or what, but they don't refer to Charles the Anti's site as Little Green Foots, so could be.

Just so.
