The Jurassic Press Fossilizes Yet Another Newsrag

Rocky Mountain News to close

"The Rocky Mountain News publishes its last paper tomorrow.

Rich Boehne, chief executive officer of Rocky-owner Scripps, broke the news to the staff at noon today, ending nearly three months of speculation over the paper's future.

"People are in grief," Editor John Temple said at a news conference later.

Boehne told staffers that the Rocky was the victim of a terrible economy and an upheaval in the newspaper industry.

"Denver can't support two newspapers any longer," Boehne told staffers, some of whom cried at the news. "It's certainly not good news for you, and it's certainly not good news for Denver."

So let's take a closer look, shall we...

Helluva lot more people these days, and a heckuva lot less newspapers. Sure, I'm aware that Colorado is drowning in transplanted California lefties and since they bitch the most about the most it's natural for a basically ultra-liberal business such as a daily paper to attempt to cater to likeminded folks. That's what killed, and continues to dismember liberal talk radio.

Years ago, those with horrid speaking voices such as Laura Ingraham couldn't buy their way into radio, but today such nostril-nobodies nasal their deviated septums all across America as Conservatives search for ANY port in the liberal Yellowstream Media storm. The news and editorial occupation is booming for some, while the Jurassic Press that is the newspaper business sinks ever lower into the tar pits of history. Not that ALL hardcopied rags will go the way of the Dodo, far from it.

People will ALWAYS need lining for their birdcages.
